Babinda

Babinda is a small town 50 minutes south of Cairns in Queensland. Home to some 1,200, Babinda like other towns along the Bruce Highway (connecting Cairns to Brisbane) is centred around a (now defunct) sugar mill, and there are sugar cane farms surrounding the town.

Babinda has a few nice shops, cafes and restaurants. The Kool Spot Cafe is a local icon, and pies and pastries from the Babinda Bakery really hit the spot. For a local night out, the Boulders Tavern does great food, drinks on tap and yes it has a pool table.

The main point of interest in Babinda, however, is the Babinda Boulders (pictured). Like other water holes in North Queensland, a number of people have drowned at this very popular swimming spot. Those visiting the Babinda Boulders need to take great care and adhere to the warning signs provided. Certain sections are very dangerous despite looking serene.

This site does not endorse swimming at the Babinda Boulders, and is a general information site only. Visitors to the Babinda Boulders enter at their own risk. This web site is under construction.
